Petticoats on the Prairie

This past weekend a friend of mine and I had a booth at the Petticoats on the Prairie Vintage market show in Colorado City, TX.  I was so much work, but such a wonderful show.  Here's a few pictures of our booth.  We had a 9 1/2 ft. x 12 ft. booth reserved, and were given the option of a larger booth when we got there.  So we scrambled to try to make our little booth plan work in a 20 x 24 ft. space.  Somehow, it all came together, and we were so happy we had some added space.  My friend makes scarves, various hand-sewn items, and decoupage frames etc, so it worked well with my artwork and other decoupage things I make.

Sunday Slideshow - Gathering of the Artisans 2013

Here's a brief look at the conference I went to this past weekend.  It was so wonderful! There
are no words to describe how much it affected me.  Such wonderful teaching, worship, art,
artists.  Such beautiful scenery in the mountains of Asheville (Black Mountain, actually) North
Carolina!  Wow!  What a blessing it was to get to experience it all.   Every day was so full, I didn't take but a few pictures, so I decided to include this video that they made showing different things from that Friday.  They did a slideshow for everyday.  So, now I'm trying to reflect and digest all that I learned.  Have a blessed and wonder-FULL weekend!!

Goodbye Summer.....I'll miss you!

Sometimes I forget I have a blog...haha!  I don't know why, but it really gets so crazy busy sometimes that it's the furtherest (yes, I know that's not a word) thing from my mind.  I had a garage sale, school started, and I'm getting ready for a fall show for my art and so on and so one.  You get the picture.  So, here it is SEPTEMBER--aaa!!

Well, it was inevitable, summer is winding down and will soon be just a memory.  Fall is only weeks a way.  Can you believe it? This past Labor day weekend we went swimming at my brother-in-law's pool, which will more than likely be the last time this year.  I so hate to say goodbye summer. BUT.. I do look forward each year to jackets, scarves, boots etc..  I like winter clothes better for some reason  I like going to high school football games and drinking my coffee under a blanket in my living room while journaling or reading.  I love snow, but we don't get a lot where I live.  So, I guess winter has it's perks.
I was walking this morning at the state park where I live.  It was a perfect 71 degrees with a beautiful blue cloudless sky.  I was thinking as I walked that in a month from now I would have to have a jacket, more than likely, at that time of morning.  At the least, I will have to change from capri athletic pants, to long pants.  Just like the changing of the seasons of the year, our lives have seasons we go through.  Are you in a winter season where things are rather dead (or rather, look dead), or a spring season where life is budding forth in and around you?  I think I'm maybe at the end of a winter season, at least I hope.  Winter isn't all that bad either.  It's a time when the snow soaks the ground making the spring all the more beautiful.  One thing that is for sure is that the seasons change and we don't stay in the same season all the time.  I thank God for that, don't you?
Ecclesiastes 3: 1-There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

The latest from my neck of the woods

Just wanted to share this new piece I finished recently.
It's one of my favorite scriptures. "Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalms 34:4   God is so good
to us to give us the desires of our heart as we delight in Him.

Hope you all have had a great weekend.  I had a garage sale yesterday and so
today I've been in recovery mode.  It takes SO much work! Ugh! It's so
great though that my closets are all cleaned out and most of that junk is gone.

Last week before school starts for us, so let the last bits of summer fun commence. :-)
Blessings!

For the love of decoupage

I just completed this decoupaged chair I will be selling at the vintage show I'll be
going to this fall.   Everything is done but the many coats of varnish.  My art room
is covered with paper clippings from this project. What a mess it makes but oh how
I love doing it. :-)

Vintage suitcase

Looking forward to having a booth this fall at Petticoats on the Prairie vintage
craft show https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Petticoats-on-the-Prairie/111992208851250.  This is the piece I created yesterday to take to the show.  I'm adding
just a few vintage inspired pieces that are decoupaged, and of course
some artwork that has that vintage look as well.  I just can't wait!  This
will be my first "booth" experiece.  I've been looking for just the right show, so that it will be worthwhile.
I went to this show last year and decided this is the one!!!
I'm sharing the booth with a friend, that will be showcasing her scarves and other handsewn pieces.
We are busy designing our booth and gathering items for displaying our goods.  Today
I'm working on a decoupaged chair that's similar to the suitcase above.  Hope to have
pictures to show soon.  Have a lovely weekend!!

New projects

The painting is a lot different than those you usually see from me.
I stepped out of my "box" a bit, and comfort zone, since I've never really painted a
close up portrait before.  It was a lot of fun though.  I think
I may try to do some others, even a series like this.  This piece
is titled "Deborah" after the character in the Bible, with her
fearless determination and strength. It will be for sale shortly in my
Etsy.com shop.

Before I finished "Deborah" I did this painting

Getting the placement right....kind of tricky :-)

Here it is...."Love came down and rescued me".  This
is from a song by the same title.

Here's the close up.  Love doing these lyrics and scripture paintings.
Blessings!  Terri

Exciting News!

I have been hard at work building a website!  Whew!  Almost at the finish line.  I will be launching it in just a day or two.   It will be so nice to have all my artwork, or most of it, in one place to show when trying
to do a booth at a show, or submit an application for a gallery spot etc..  So, I will post the website info here just as soon as I get it published.
Happy Monday!!

It's March and Spring is around the corner!  Yay!  I love Spring.  Thought I'd share a painting I finished recently.   The colors remind me of Spring.

Looks like it's going to take a while to get in the habit of blogging frequently.  I'm going to be better....I am!!
It's time to go forward with my Art business, so I'm building a web site.  It's SO time consuming, especially when you don't know what you're doing.  So, hopefully it will all come together and be wonderful.  How's that for positive thinking?
Happy Tuesday!
Blessings,
Terri

I'm back!!

After a very LOOOONNNNGGG break, I am back to blogging.  I hope to keep it up this time.
Life just seems to get in the way sometime.  :-)

Lots of new artwork to post and talk about.  I'll start with the commissioned piece I did in the
fall of last year.  This was for a customer who wanted a very personal piece, with places visited in
Texas, as well as the log cabin they live in represented.  The path of their travels is depicted with pieces of rolled Texas map.  There is barbed wire, scrabble tiles, raised letters (for Texas), seashells they collected,
and many other things found in the Lone star state.  This was a challenging and rewarding piece to do.  Trying to put all the elements requested into a painting with an interesting composition took time and lots of trial and error. :-)
