New things on the horizon

Exciting changes on the way.  I'm in the process of designing a new website, changing my business name, moving my blog, and getting a new logo for all my sites.  So my whole art business is getting a needed facelift.  Stay tuned for more details.  I absolutely can't wait until I can share it all with you!

Abstract painting from recycled artwork

I found a cheap piece of framed art (a print) in a closet recently.  It had belonged to my mother, and for some reason I kept it.  Maybe it was the intent to paint over it all along, I'm not sure.  Anyway, that's exactly what I did.  I put gesso over the already very textured canvas (or whatever it is inside the frame), and then masked off the frame and just painted the area that showed.  So, I ended up painting an abstract painting, not my usual genre at all.  I had a lot of fun with it.  It's called "Rise above it" and actually has a lot of symbolism and meaning to me.  I'm hesitant to tell you the things the painting conveys, for I feel like the viewer really is the one that should see what the painting speaks to him/her.   On the other hand, I really enjoy a painting when the artist explains the story behind it.  So,  I'm going to break my own rules, and tell you what this painting says to me. :-)  First,  I titled it " Rise above it, " because I feel like there are things in our life, circumstances, and what have you, that God wants us to rise above.  He was just showing me yesterday how we have such a limited view of things (like a puzzle piece), when He sees the WHOLE puzzle.  I could talk on that subject a while, but back to the painting....

The blue green represents the ocean or depths that we may feel like we're in.  God is giving us many "ladders", or help to rise to the top.  There are bubbles also, that don't show up well in the above photo, that represent the "air", or life at the top. I hope this painting will encourage someone today to rise above the things that are weighting you down and get an eternal (God view) of your situation.  Blessings!

Healing in His Wings

This is a painting I did recently called "Healing in his wings".  It is taken from the scripture in Malachi 4:2 that says: "But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings." I have a great desire to paint a series of paintings with a
healing theme.  I would love my paintings to bring someone hope that has lost hope.  So hopefully, you will see more posted about that in the future.

New Year, New Start!

Yes, I will probably get the "worst blogger ever" award.  Thanksgiving came and went, Christmas came and went.  New Year even came and went!!!
But, a new year means new beginnings....time to start fresh, turn over a new leaf, etc..etc.. so, here's to my attempt to start over and do better. :-)
I have the usual resolutions this year; lose weight, exercise more, eat less and healthier.  More importantly, I want to know what God has for me this year, so I can step into His plan.  Isn't that
the thing that causes us to feel fulfilled?  We can't just do our own thing in this life, apart from Him, and find fulfillment. If I've learned anything from my years on this earth, it's that!

School started back this week, and so I'm getting back into my routine, slowly.  That means it's time to paint again.  I haven't done a lot of painting since November, but I'm ready to get back in the saddle!  Here's one I did right before the holidays.  It's a favorite of mine that I have hanging in my bedroom, at least for now.

Even though it's a bit late, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year filled with blessings, and may you have a desire to pursue the Lord and His will for your life more than ever!

Petticoats on the Prairie

This past weekend a friend of mine and I had a booth at the Petticoats on the Prairie Vintage market show in Colorado City, TX.  I was so much work, but such a wonderful show.  Here's a few pictures of our booth.  We had a 9 1/2 ft. x 12 ft. booth reserved, and were given the option of a larger booth when we got there.  So we scrambled to try to make our little booth plan work in a 20 x 24 ft. space.  Somehow, it all came together, and we were so happy we had some added space.  My friend makes scarves, various hand-sewn items, and decoupage frames etc, so it worked well with my artwork and other decoupage things I make.

Sunday Slideshow - Gathering of the Artisans 2013

Here's a brief look at the conference I went to this past weekend.  It was so wonderful! There
are no words to describe how much it affected me.  Such wonderful teaching, worship, art,
artists.  Such beautiful scenery in the mountains of Asheville (Black Mountain, actually) North
Carolina!  Wow!  What a blessing it was to get to experience it all.   Every day was so full, I didn't take but a few pictures, so I decided to include this video that they made showing different things from that Friday.  They did a slideshow for everyday.  So, now I'm trying to reflect and digest all that I learned.  Have a blessed and wonder-FULL weekend!!

I'm sitting in Starbucks killing some time before my flight in a little over an hour.  I'm going to the Gathering of Artisans conference in Asheville NC this weekend.  Christian artists from all venues will gather for a weekend of workshops etc..   I'm so excited for this opportunity.  Hopefully I will have beautiful pictures to share.   Hope you all have a wonderful weekend as well!
